The National Photographic Collection

The National Library Photographic Archive is located in Meeting House Square in Temple Bar, a short walk from the Library’s other buildings on Kildare Street. It houses a regular programme of exhibitions based on the Library’s photographic collections and a reading room.
The NLI photographs are free to view and publicly accessible on, Enquirers can then explore these and other related materials through the NLI links.

These are the best subject areas to search for photographs of travellers, in the NLI collections:

Tinkers / Itinerants / Travellers / Irish Travellers (Nomadic People).  In this way, you’ll find links to numerous NPA collections, including Richard Tilbrook, My Own Place, Irish Independent, and Elinor Wiltshire.  In December 2017, we happily accepted the donation of this small collection, Mary Davies.
